Averill Park, N.Y., May 7, 2002 – In today's sub-regional playoff game, Hudson Valley Community College's women's softball team pounded out eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat Schenectady County Community College, 9-3, and advance to the "Final Four" of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region III tournament.

Hudson Valley trailed, 3-1, entering the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Vikings, 26-2 in their last 28 games, proved they know how to win, though, sending 12 batters to the plate.

With the bases loaded in the sixth, Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn H.S.) smacked a single to right field, scoring Kim Prior (Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk H.S.) and Kiah Narotski (Hoosick Falls H.S.). A Schenectady error on the play allowed Megan Davis (Greenwich H.S.) to dash home, too. After Bradt's at-bat, Hudson Valley led, 4-3, and would never trail again.

Hudson Valley's Christyn Hamel (Averill Park H.S.) pitched the game's final 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run. She struck out three batters and hit a single.

Prior and Jill Fox (Bishop Maginn H.S.) each had a pair of hits and two RBI.

Hudson Valley (29-7 overall and ranked No. 7 in the nation among Division III junior colleges) now advances to the next round of the Region III tourney, which begins Friday in Corning, N.Y., where the tournament becomes a four-team, double-elimination event. Schenectady (14-9) is finished for the season.
