Lady Vikings Capture League Title

Queensbury, N.Y., May 1 – Hudson Valley Community College's softball team, ranked seventh in the nation among Division III junior colleges, claimed the Mountain Valley Conference title with a pair of victories against Adirondack Community College today. Hudson Valley triumphed, 14-2 and 5-2, advancing its league record to 16-0.

     The Lady Vikings, who have 11 consecutive games and 19 of their last 20 games, are now 22-6 overall. Adirondack is 14-6 overall.

Christyn Hamel (Averill Park H.S.) tossed a complete-game two-hitter to open the doubleheader. She also had three hits of Hudson Valley's 18 hits, including a triple, and two runs batted in. Jill Fox (Bishop Maginn H.S.), meanwhile, exploded offensively, contributing three hits and five runs batted in. Kim Prior (Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk H.S.) had three hits and a pair of runs batted in.

In game two, Prior pitched the first four innings to pick up the win and Kelly Scott (Schuylerville H.S.) earned a save by throwing three relief innings. The duo combined to hold Adirondack to five hits. Casey Brinkman (Troy H.S.) had three hits and she scored twice, and Fox rapped a two-run double. Hamel had a single and a triple.
