Hudson Valley Men’s Soccer Falls to 13th-Ranked Genesee

The Hudson Valley Community College (0-1/0-1 Region III) men’s soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to Genesee Community College (1-0/1-0 Region III) today in Troy.

Genesee, which is ranked No. 13 in the NJCAA Division III poll, took advantage of a pair of corner kicks to net its first two goals. Tristan Watson (Brampton, ONT) netted the first goal in the 11th minute and Jorge Zapata (Caracas, Venezuela) gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead two minutes later.

Freshman Mike Ackerman (Castleton/Maple Hill High School) scored the first of his two goals with 26:06 remaining in the opening half to cut the Vikings deficit to 2-1. However, Genesee made a penalty kick six minutes later to up its advantage to 3-1.

Ackerman cut the Vikings deficit to one again two minutes later with a goal from the left side after beating the outside defender.

Zapata added an insurance goal with eight minutes remaining in the contest.
