Hudson Valley Community College Director of Athletics Tom Reinisch announced the hiring of Travis Cooke of Castleton as the college’s head men’s soccer coach and Andrew Scampini of Loudonville as the tennis coach.
Cooke was a standout player at Maple Hill High School before helping the University of Massachusetts to an Atlantic 10 Conference championship in 2001. He was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year that season. Cooke recently coached the Brunswick Soccer Club’s under 17 boys team in 2006.
Cooke takes over a team that finished 10-7 a year ago and returns its top four scorers, including leading scorer Corey Terpening (Waterford/Waterford-Halfmoon High School) who finished with 14 goals and four assists in 2005.
Scampini is the assistant tennis professional at Saratoga Golf and Polo Club. An accomplished player himself, Scampini was the captain of the Siena College tennis team in 1987. He was a member of the World Team Tennis 4.5 Amateur Division national championship teams in 1998 and 2000.
Hudson Valley’s tennis team finished fifth at the 2005 Region III tournament.
