Hudson Valley Men's Soccer Falls to Herkimer

In a meeting of two nationally-ranked junior college men's soccer teams, Herkimer County Community College came away with a 2-1 win over Hudson Valley Community College earlier today in Herkimer. Hudson Valley (2-2) entered the contest ranked fifth in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll while Herkimer (6-0) is ranked second.
Sophomore Dan Farrell (Stillwater/Stillwater) gave Hudson Valley the early lead when he beat the Herkimer keeper five minutes into the contest. Sophomores Chris Jakubiak (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa High
School) and Rafael Luna (Albany/Albany High School) assisted on the goal.
Herkimer's Brandon Gilkes (Highland Mills) tied the game ten minutes later with an unassisted goal. The Generals took the lead with nearly 20 minutes remaining in the half on a penalty kick by Matt Smith (Warwick).
The two teams were unable to score in the second half although Hudson Valley did have a goal called back on an offsides penalty.
Hudson Valley will return home on Wednesday, September 17 to face SUNY Cobleskill at 4 p.m.
