Vikings Qualify For Playoffs

Hudson Valley's Men's Soccer Team, Recently Ranked 14th
In The Nation, Earns #5 Seed In Region III Tourney

Hudson Valley Community College's men's soccer team, recently ranked 14th in the nation among NJCAA Division III squads, has qualified for the Region III Division III championship tournament. After a first-round bye, the fifth-seeded Vikings (10-4) will go on the road to face the number four seed, SUNY Cobleskill (11-3-1), in a 2 p.m. quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, October 21.

There are 11 teams in the tournament. Herkimer County Community College (13-0) is the top seed. Play begins October 17 for squads seeded six through 11. Semifinal matches will be played at Herkimer on October 29, with the title game also taking place at Herkimer at 1 p.m. on October 29.

Hudson Valley has cracked the top 20 nationally with a first-year coach, John Meehan, at the helm and just two second-year players, Evan Gilligan (Columbia) and Don VanPatten (Scotia-Glenville), on the roster. Ryan Bombard (Rotterdam) and Brad Fuller (Shenendehowa) lead Hudson Valley offensively. Seventeen of the 23 student-athletes listed on Hudson Valley's roster are from the Capital Region.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
