The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team, ranked 14th in the nation among NJCAA Division III teams, plays its final regular season home game at 4 p.m. tomorrow. The Vikings (9-3) will host Mountain Valley Conference rival Fulton-Montgomery
Community College (2-8).
The game will be played just to the right of Veteran's Memorial Stadium, where the Vikings' football team plays, behind Hudson Valley's McDonough Sports Complex.
Hudson Valley has cracked the top 20 nationally with a first-year coach, John Meehan, at the helm and just two second-year players, Evan Gilligan (Columbia) and Don VanPatten (Scotia-Glenville), on the roster. An October 7 victory against Broome Community College, then ranked eighth in the country, propelled the Vikings into the rankings.
Ryan Bombard (Rotterdam) and Brad Fuller (Shenendehowa) lead Hudson Valley offensively. Fuller has notched nine goals and seven helpers; Bombard has five goals and nine assists. Seventeen of the 23 student-athletes listed on Hudson Valley's roster are from the Capital Region.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley Community College has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
