The Hudson Valley Community College (10-6) men’s soccer team learned on Wednesday, October 16 that it has earned a fifth seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division III Region III tournament.

Hudson Valley has drawn a first round bye in the 11-team tournament and will travel to No. 4 Broome Community College on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m and will be played at Binghamton High School. Hudson Valley defeated visiting Broome (12-3-2) 1-0 on Saturday, October 5 in its lone meeting with the Hornets this season.

The Vikings, ranked 11th in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, have played one of the toughest schedules in the country to prepare for the upcoming tournament. Six of the nation’s top 12 teams appeared on Hudson Valley’s season slate as well as two others that have qualified for the regional tournament.

Rafael Luna (Albany/Albany High School) leads a balanced Hudson Valley attack in which six players have registered 10 or more points. Luna has scored seven goals and handed out 11 assist while Faber Kelly (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) has seven goals and six assists.

Upcoming Men’s Soccer Action: Tuesday, October 22, at Broome, 6:45 p.m.; NJCAA Region III Final Four, Saturday-Sunday, October 25-26, at Mohawk Valley.
