Hudson Valley Vikings Weekly Sports Wrap-Up 9/23-9/29

The Hudson Valley men's soccer team is 7-4 and ranked 10th in the latest edition of the NJCAA Division III national poll. The Vikings were 2-1 during the week, defeating Delhi 3-2 on Tuesday, and Cayuga 5-0 on Sunday, September 29. The lone setback was a 2-0 loss at second ranked Ulster on Thursday, September 26.

Midfielder Faber Kelly (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) and forward Rafael Luna (Albany/Albany) top the club with six goals apiece and have dished out five and seven assists, respectively. Joe Teator (Castleton/Maple Hill) has been a part of ten goals with a team-high eight assists to go with two goals of his own. John Ross (Coram/Newfield) has added four goals and two assists this fall.

Upcoming Men's Soccer Action: Wednesday, October 2, vs. Adirondack, 4 p.m.; Saturday, October 5, Broome, 2 p.m.

In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
