The Hudson Valley Community College men’s basketball team (16-8) defeated North Country Community College (17-6) 102-92 on Saturday afternoon.

With 20 seconds remaining in the first half, Christian Jones (Waterford/Waterford) hit a baseline jumper to tie the Saints, 45-45. Shortly after North Country inbounded the ball, Hudson Valley caused a turnover, which led to a Diamond Corker (Scotia/Schenectady) layup for the final basket of the half.

The Vikings started the second half slow, allowing the Saints to control the tempo and go on a 13-2 run during the opening five minutes. After a time-out, Hudson Valley pushed the ball offensively for the next three minutes and went on a 20-2 run. This included two deep threes by Brandon Palmer (Columbia/East Greenbush), giving the Vikings a nine point advantage. The Vikings would maintain the lead for the remaining ten minutes of the game, cruising to their fifth straight victory.

Hudson Valley had five players score in double digits, led by Elijah Lott’s (Columbia/East Greenbush) 30 points. Kevin Lenehan (Duanesburg/Delanson) had 22, Brandon Palmer 16, John Palmer (Columbia/East Greenbush) 15, and Caleb Canty (Hudson/Hudson) contributed 10 to the victory.

The men travel to Columbia-Greene on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
