Vikings Finish 15-0 at Home with 122-89 Victory

All season long, the Hudson Valley men’s basketball team has been an explosive offensive unit. As a team, they have averaged 98 points per game and have broken the 100-point mark eight times during the season. However, the men saved their best for last. In their final home game, Wednesday, Feb. 20, the Vikings scored 122 points, made 22 three-point field goals, and set two individual school records in a 122-89 win over Schenectady County Community College.

The night started off with Emanuel Mayben (Troy/Troy High School) becoming the college’s all-time assists leader. Mayben broke the old record of 244 with a beautiful cross court pass to Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School) for a three point field goal seven minutes into the game. Mayben finished the night breaking his single game assist record with 18 assists. Mayben also scored 21 points on the evening. For his career, Mayben currently has 261 assists.

Gallo scored 22 points in the first half as the Vikings were sharp on offense all-night and led 62-46 at the break. Hudson Valley connected on 13 three-point field goals in the first half. At one point, Ryne Luce (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) connected on five straight threes.

The second half was much of the same. Gallo finished with a game-high 31 points. Luce finished the night with 24 points and eight three pointers. His final three broke the school record of 146. Luce has a career total of 147. Gallo is not far behind with 144 three point field goals. The Vikings finished the night an astounding 22-48 from the three point line.

Datwan Hemingway (Albany/ CBA) had another solid night for the Vikings. The Region’s leading rebounder collected another 16 rebounds to go along with his 17 points. Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction/ Schenectady High School) also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Vikings will look to wrap up a perfect regular season on Friday night at 7 p.m. at SUNY Cobleskill. It will be the last regular season meeting ever between the two rivals. SUNY Cobleskill will become a four year school next year with NCAA status. Cobleskill is currently ranked eighth in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll.
