Troy, January 15 – Hudson Valley Community College's men's basketball team surged twice against Adirondack Community College tonight – outscoring the Timberwolves 15-5 over the last nine minutes of the first half and 8-1 over a three-minute stretch late in the second half – but could not capture the lead for good. The Vikings fell to their Mountain Valley Conference rival, 57-49.

In a game played at Troy's McDonough Complex, Hudson Valley seized an advantage with 2:22 left in the first half. First-year guard Paul Bowe (Hudson Falls) enabled Hudson Valley, ranked fifth in the nation among NJCAA Division teams, to take a 26-25 lead.

With Hudson Valley trailing by two points, Bowe pressed Adirondack's point guard, forcing the Timberwolves into a 10-second backcourt violation. Hudson Valley did not score on the ensuing possession, but Bowe recorded a steal, getting the ball back for the Vikings. He passed the ball, set up near the 3-point line and took a pass from R.J. Mann (Canajoharie), drilling the long shot.

The first half ended in a 27-27 tie. Adirondack started the second half quick, but a scrappy Hudson Valley squad kept the game close with tight defense. Thanks to three consecutive free throws by Hudson Valley guard Jeremy Schneible (Greenwich) with 56 seconds remaining, the Vikings pulled within four points, but Adirondack hit four free throws down the stretch to win.

Kurt Bush (Newcomb-Minerva) led the Vikings with 14 points. Mann contributed eight points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Thomas Perren (Brotmanville, NJ) had 10 rebounds.

Hudson Valley is now 10-3. Adirondack is 8-6.
