The Hudson Valley Community College lacrosse team (8-6) was defeated by Herkimer County Community College in the first round of the Region III Tournament, 15-10, on Tuesday April 27. The loss came less than a week after the Vikings defeated Herkimer in Troy for the Mountain Valley Conference Championship. The Generals were awarded the four seed in the Region III Tournament, and the Vikings the five seed.

The Vikings got on the board first as Casey Balzer (Columbia, Schodack) put them up 1-0 within the first two minutes of the contest. The Generals would answer with four goals to close out the first quarter. Hudson Valley began the second quarter with its own run of four unanswered goals, taking back the lead in the process. The half would come to an end with the score 6-6.

Herkimer came out very physical in the second half, with over –aggressive play costing them several penalties. The Vikings just couldn't capitalize on the man advantage, however, contributing to a third-quarter scoring drought that would prove detrimental as Herkimer took its largest lead, 12-8, in the fourth. Hudson Valley scored two quick goals to pull to within two points with four minutes remaining, but Herkimer's depth showed as they wore down the Viking side. Herkimer avenged its conference title game loss with the 15-10 victory.

Balzer finished the game with four goals. Troy Martin (Werribee Secondary, Melbourne, AUS) had a goal and three assists and Rich Bamberger (St. John's. Brimfield, MA) had two goals and an assist. Alan Hiltz (La Salle, Wynantskill) had 21 saves on 36 shots.

The Vikings end the season as the Mountain Valley Conference Champions for the second season in row with a final record of 8-6.
