Lacrosse Runs Win Streak To Five

The Hudson Valley Community College lacrosse team (6-5) won its' fourth and fifth games in-a-row on Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, defeating Jefferson County Community College, 20 - 13 at home and then collecting a road win against Genesee Community College, 8 - 7.

Against Jefferson, the Vikings climbed out to a 15-4 lead midway through the third quarter. Jefferson dug into the Hudson Valley lead as much as it could, closing the gap to 16-11 before the Vikings put them away, 20-13. Rich Bamberger (St. John's, Brimfield, MA) had a huge day, scoring five goals and adding three assists. James Bryant (White Plains, White Plains) also had five goals. Troy Martin (Werribee Secondary, Melbourne, AUS) had a goal and five assists.

On Sunday, the Vikings once again had to hold off an opponent's desperate comeback attempt as Genesee fought to within one goal of Hudson Valley. Two big saves by Alan Hiltz (La Salle, Wynantskill) in the game's final minutes helped secure the win. Bamberger had another big game, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists. Martin had another goal and two assists.

The Vikings square off against rival, Herkimer County Community College, on Thursday, April 22 for the Mountain Valley Conference Championship. Ball drops at 4 p.m.
