After leading Hudson Valley's Community College's 2001 men's lacrosse team to an unblemished league record, second-year head coach Brent Coye of Saratoga was recently honored as the Mountain Valley Conference's Coach of the Year. Coye guided the Vikings to a 4-0 Mountain Valley Conference record (good for the league title) and a 4-4 overall record.

This past season, cut short by inclement weather, represents a huge improvement from Coye's first season at Hudson Valley – he posted a 3-8 record in 2000. Coye, who was a member of Nazareth College's 1992 national championship team, utilized a roster that included 17 Capital Region players in 2001. Coye also was a short-stick player for the New York Saints of the National Lacrosse League.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business, Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley Community College has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
