Hudson Valley Falls to Top-Ranked Herkimer, 17-5

TROY, NY – The Hudson Valley Community College men’s lacrosse team had its season-high nine-game winning streak snapped today as top-ranked Herkimer County Community College posted a 17-5 win over the Vikings at Viking Field. With the win, the Generals improved to 12-1, while Hudson Valley dropped to 12-4.

Jake Koch scored five goals and Justin Hayes added a goal and seven assists in the win for Herkimer. Sophomore attackman Mark Petter (Albany, NY/Niskayuna HS) led the Vikings with two goals.

The Generals, ranked No. 1 in Region 3 lacrosse, never trailed in the game. The Generals led 5-2 after one quarter on goals by five different players.

Hudson Valley closed within three goals on Ryan DeSalvatore’s tally 1:45 into the second quarter, but Herkimer scored five straight goals, including two by Doug Hoch, to take an 11-3 lead into the break.

Freshman goalie Kevin DeCelle (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa HS) made six saves in the loss for Hudson Valley. DeCelle, who has appeared in all 16 games this season for the Vikings, had his record fall to 12-4.

The Vikings return to action on Sunday (April 27) when they close out the regular season versus Cayuga Community College (1 p.m. start).
