Hudson Valley Community College Athletic Director Drew Marrochello announced today the hiring of Matt Alvey of Troy as the college's lacrosse coach.

Alvey, who has been the Hudson Valley ice hockey coach the last two years, was an assistant lacrosse coach under John Meehan in 2003, helping the Vikings to an 8-3 record and a spot in the Region III tournament.

"We want to build on the successes the lacrosse team has had under John Meehan the last two years," Marrochello said. "Matt has proven himself to be a very good coach since coming to Hudson Valley two years ago, and will be tremendous asset to our lacrosse program."

Alvey came to Hudson Valley after playing five years of minor league hockey. He attended Lake Superior State University and was a second round draft pick of the Boston Bruins in 1993.

Alvey will continue to coach the college's ice hockey team. Meehan will remain as the coach of the Hudson Valley men's soccer team.
