Hudson Valley Lacrosse Falls to Alfred State in Region III Tournament

Fourth seeded Alfred State College (11-2) held No. 5 Hudson Valley Community College scoreless over the final 13 minutes and pulled away for an 18-9 victory in the opening round of the NJCAA Region III tournament.

Hudson Valley, which was making its first tournament appearance in five years, finishes the season 8-3.

The Pioneers used solid second and fourth quarters to earn the victory. ASC led 4-3 after the first quarter but outscored Hudson Valley 3-1 in the second to enter halftime with a 7-4 lead. After the two teams traded four goals apiece in the third quarter, ASC took full control of the game in the fourth, outscoring the Vikings 7-1, including the final six goals.

Sophomore Eric DeSalvatore (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa High School) led Hudson Valley with four goals. Freshman Jon McCardle (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) added two goals.

The Pioneers got solid offensive production from Chris Weaver (Horseheads), Joe DeVoe (Skaneateles), Scott Nash (Syracuse/Henninger), and Alex Khalil (Orchard Park). Weaver netted five goals and passed out an assist, DeVoe finished with four goals and three assists, Nash found the back of the net four times, and Khalil dished out five assists.
