Sturges Helps Vikings Secure OT Victory

All-American's OT Goal Propels Hudson Valley
To 3-2 Win Against National Sports Academy
Troy, N.Y., November 28, 2001 – Less
than a minute into sudden-death overtime at Troy's Conway Ice Arena, Hudson
Valley Community College's Brian Mohan (La Salle Institute) collected
a loose puck in the Vikings' zone and slipped it past several National
Sports Academy skaters to a streaking Jim Sturges (East Hampton H.S.,
MA). Sturges, the leading scorer in the nation among junior college
players last season, went top shelf with the puck, netting the game-winner
and giving Hudson Valley a 3-2 victory. Sturges also had an earlier assist.
Hudson Valley, who won the national championship
in 2000-01, is now 5-2-1 overall. National Sports Academy, a Lake Placid-based
college-preparatory school that features a roster filled with international
players, is now 4-9 overall. The teams played two 25-minute periods plus

2000-01 NJCAA Region III Player of the Year Jason Vasco (CBA) was
solid in goal for the Vikings. The Clifton Park native made 30 saves.
