All-American's OT Goal Propels Hudson Valley
To 3-2 Win Against National Sports Academy

Troy, N.Y., November 28, 2001 – Less than a minute into sudden-death overtime at Troy's Conway Ice Arena, Hudson Valley Community College's Brian Mohan (La Salle Institute) collected a loose puck in the Vikings' zone and slipped it past several National Sports Academy skaters to a streaking Jim Sturges (East Hampton H.S., MA). Sturges, the leading scorer in the nation among junior college players last season, went top shelf with the puck, netting the game-winner and giving Hudson Valley a 3-2 victory. Sturges also had an earlier assist.

Hudson Valley, who won the national championship in 2000-01, is now 5-2-1 overall. National Sports Academy, a Lake Placid-based college-preparatory school that features a roster filled with international players, is now 4-9 overall. The teams played two 25-minute periods plus overtime.

While Sturges contributed the overtime score, 2000-01 NJCAA Region III Player of the Year Jason Vasco (CBA) was solid in goal for the Vikings. The Clifton Park native made 30 saves.

Mike Santamoor (Saratoga H.S.) and Kyle Reynolds (La Salle Institute) tallied first-period scores for Hudson Valley.
