Former Viking Joins Major Division I Coaching Staff

Former Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey standout George McKenna was hired on to the coaching staff at the University of Connecticut after two seasons at Wesleyan University under the guidance of former UConn great Chris Potter ('93). While at Wesleyan, McKenna spent significant time as a recruiting coordinator and worked with the special teams. McKenna also earned a master's of liberal arts from the prestigious school while serving on the bench with the hockey program.

A 2007 graduate of Castleton State College, McKenna served as an assistant coach at his alma mater during the 2008-09 season. As a player, he spent two seasons at Castleton where he earned the Unsung Hero Award and the Coaches Award. McKenna played for Hudson Valley Community College under Head Coach Matt Alvey during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, and recorded four goals and one assist.

McKenna joins UConn with extensive USA Hockey experience, having coached at the New England and Atlantic District USA Hockey Development Camps. He currently possesses USA Hockey Level 4 coaching certification.
