Hudson Valley Ice Hockey Defeats Erie Back to Back

The Hudson Valley Community College men's ice hockey team (8-3) defeated Erie Community College 4-2 on Friday Dec. 3 and again on Saturday, Dec. 4 with a score of 5-3.

On Friday, the Erie Cats scored in the first period of the game and held the Vikings down throughout the period. The Vikings came back in the second period to score two goals and take the lead. In the last period of the game, Erie came back and scored to make it a tie-game. However the Vikings quickly broke down the Cats' defense and scored to take back the lead. They went on to score once more to clinch the win.

Scoring for the Vikings on Friday were Roman Malyshev (School No. 90/Moscow, Russia) and Josh Dallman (Merrill/Merrill, WI) with one goal each; Patrick Burke (Albany Academy/Albany) with one goal, one assist; and Chris Flynn (White Plains/White Plains) with one goal and two assists.

Saturday's game started off the same, with the Erie Cats scoring first only 24 seconds into the game. The Vikings scored on the Cats' defense to get on the board. During the last half of the first period, both teams would score to end the first period tied 2-2. The Vikings held out strong in the second period not allowing Erie to get close enough to attack. The Vikings scored twice in the period, while allowing the Cats to score only once. In the last period of the game, the Vikings shut down the Cats' attempts to score, and themselves scored one more goal to hold Erie off for the victory

Scoring for the Vikings were Dave Gardner (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) with two goals and one assist, Chris Flynn (White Plains/White Plains) with two goalsand Dan Honovic (Xaverian/Brooklyn) with one goal. Roman Malyshev (School No. 90 /Moscow, Russia) had two assists, and Ken Lancto (Schalmont/Rotterdam), Patrick Burke (Albany Academy/Albany), Brett Fiorentino (Vestal, Vestal) and Chris Wollerman (Pt. Pleasant/Pt. Pleasant, NJ) each had one assist to help out the Vikings.

The men travel to face Broome on Wednesday, Dec.8. at 7:09 p.m.
