Hudson Valley Community College Ice Hockey Falls to Mohawk Valley in National Championship Tournament

In the first matchup of the 2009 NJCAA Men's Ice Hockey National Championship Tournament, #5 Mohawk Valley Community College knocked off #4 Hudson Valley Community College, 3-1. The Vikings (15-7-4) were 2-0-1 versus Mohawk Valley in the regular season.

The first period saw both teams battle to a scoreless tie, but Mohawk Valley scored at the 35 minute mark in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Vikings evened the score with a goal by freshman Andrew Ojeda (Suffern HS/Suffern) at the 8:40 mark off an assist by Sean Starvish (East Windsor HS/East Windsor, CT).

Despite a 48-26 advantage in shots on goal for the game, the Vikings had no answer in the third period when Mohawk Valley scored twice to pull away for the final margin of victory.
