Ice Hockey Battles Mohawk Valley to Tie

The Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey team (13-1-3) tied Mohawk Valley Community College, 6-6, Tuesday, Feb. 3, in Utica on a late goal in the third period.
After leading for much of the game, the Vikings gave up three goals in a five-minute span, putting them behind 6-5 with less than 10 minutes to play. The Hawks took a delay of game penalty with 2:02 remaining and the Vikings took advantage. Freshman David Gordon (St. Mary’s HS/Lynn, MA) scored his second unassisted goal of the game, tying the score with nine seconds to play. There was no scoring in the five minute overtime period. Gordon ended the game with four total points on the night.
The Vikings also got goals from sophomore Eric Olds (CBA/Scotia) and freshman Ray Marshal (Bethlehem HS/Bethlehem), who got his first collegiate goal early in the second period.
Kevin Bowdidge (Stoneham HS/Stoneham, MA) and Justin Barnard (LaSalle Institute/Albany) combined for 28 saves on the night.
The Vikings host a two-game series this weekend against Monroe Community College. Saturday’s game is set for 7 p.m. and Sunday’s contest begins at 1 p.m.
