Hudson Valley Hockey Wins at Broome

The Hudson Valley Community College (2-0) ice hockey team defeated Broome Community College, 5-1, this afternoon in Binghamton.
Hudson Valley opened up a 2-0 lead on goals by Mike Schrom (Schenectady/Shenendehowa High School) and Eric Olds (Scotia/CBA).
However, the Hornets would cut their deficit to 2-1 entering the first intermission when Dan Armellino scored on the power play with 22 seconds remaining in the first period.
The second period was tight between the two teams before Eric Nichols (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School) broke away to score with 49 seconds remaining to give Hudson Valley a 3-1 lead.
The third period belonged to the Vikings. Hudson Valley held a 19-5 shot advantage and got goals from Paul Chamberlain (Niskayuna/Niskayuna High School) and Brian Pekala (West Sand Lake/Averill Park High School) to pull away from the Hornets.
Freshman goaltender Chris Pakatar (Troy/Troy High School) stopped 22 shots in net to pick up the win.
