Canton Rallies to Defeat Hudson Valley in NJCAA Tournament

Fourth-seeded SUNY Canton (11-10-3) score four unanswered goals over the final 4:17 of the game to defeat No. 5 Hudson Valley Community College, 4-2, in the opening round of the NJCAA Ice Hockey Tournament played in Buffalo.

Sophomore forward Jeff Beecher (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls High School) gave Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead with a wrist shot that went over the goaltenders glove with 8:41 remaining in the second period. He added another goal 25 seconds into the third period on a breakaway that gave Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore forward Kyle Laurie (Canton/Canton High School) cut the lead to 2-1 with 4:17 remaining in the contest on a power play goal. He would score the game-winning goal three minutes later.

Freshman Jeremy Kolb (Rush/Rush-Henrietta High School) tied the game on a breakaway short-handed goal with 3:01 remaining.

Canton’s freshman goalie Dustin Deleel (Massena/Massena High School) stopped 29 shots to pick up the win.

Sophomore Devon Lent (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) stopped 33 shots for Hudson Valley.

Hudson Valley finishes its season with an 11-12-3.
