Hockey Splits on Western Trip

The Hudson Valley Community College (4-1/1-1 Region III) ice hockey team split a pair of games on its annual trip to Western New York. Hudson Valley suffered a 6-2 setback at Monroe Community College on Friday, November 12, but rebounded to defeat Erie Community College, 4-2, on Saturday, November 13. It was only the third time in the 14-year history of the program that Hudson Valley won at Erie.
Hudson Valley rallied for three goals in the third period to defeat Erie. Freshman Jeff Beecher (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls High School) scored two of the goals. Sophomore forward Mike VanBaaren (Averill Park/LaSalle Institute) had the game-winning goal with 8:30 remaining in the game. Freshman Taylor Bourque (Slingerland/Guilderland High School) also scored in the game.
Sophomore goalie Bryan McDonald (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa High School) made 45 saves in net for the Vikings.
Beecher and freshman Mike Devoid (Berwick, ME/Noble High School) each had a goal for the Vikings in their loss to Monroe.
