Contributes 3 Goals and 3 Assists
Troy, October 29 – The Hudson Valley Community College men's hockey team scored four power-play goals and opened the 2000-2001 campaign with a 9-2 victory against SUNY Stonybrook today. While Stonybrook was hit with 43 penalty minutes, the Vikings scored often and early, seizing a 4-0 lead in the first period.
The first Hudson Valley goal of the season came courtesy of the college's Saratoga Connection. Mike Paine hit a streaking Mike Santamoor with a lead pass, and Santamoor capped off the breakaway by lifting the puck past Stonybrook's goaltender. Santamoor, who had two goals and an assist, and Paine, who later notched a goal, are
just two of the six Vikings who played for Saratoga High School's 1999 New York State championship team.
Kyle Reynolds (La Salle Institute) and Jim Sturges (East Hampton, MA) each had a pair of goals for Hudson Valley. Defenseman Scott Bazzano (Seton Catholic) added a pair of assists. Jason Vasco (CBA), Brendan Dwyer (Arlington) and Nick Romano (Toms River North, NJ) combined to make 28 saves for the Vikings, who play Siena College on the road at 7 p.m. on November 2.
Hudson Valley's annual media day is slated for 4 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Robert M. Conway Jr. Ice Arena, which is housed in the college's McDonough Complex.
