Vikings Fall to Mohawk Valley 8-5

The Hudson Valley Community College (1-5) ice hockey team suffered an 8-5 setback to visiting Mohawk Valley Community College earlier tonight in Troy.

Freshman forward Kevin Moteyunas (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse High School) tallied two goals for the Vikings. Freshman forward Matt Benedetto (Rotterdam/Mohonasen High School), sophomore forward Andrew Carnevale (North Greenbush/LaSalle Institute), and sophomore forward Luke Paye (Pulaski/Pulaski High School) added one goal apiece.

Mohawk Valley (3-5) was led by sophomore forward Mattias Eriksson (Ange, Sweden), who finished with three goals.

Hudson Valley held a 2-1 lead with under a minute to go in the first period when Mohawk Valley freshman forward Thomas Germano (Hyde Park) tied the game, 2-2, at the first period buzzer. The Hawks then scored the first four goals of the second period to put the game away.

Hudson Valley will return to action on Saturday, December 7 when it hosts defending NJCAA national champion SUNY Morrisville at 7 p.m.
