Troy, N.Y., February 13, 2002 – Hudson Valley Community College's ice hockey team outshot Mohawk Valley Community College, 28-2, in the first period this evening, opening up a 6-1 lead en route to an 11-5 Eastern Junior College Hockey League victory at the Conway Ice Arena. On the game, the Vikings outshot Mohawk Valley, 61-17.

All-American Dean Vandervort (Northern Burlington H.S., NJ) notched a hat trick before the end of the second period and six skaters scored at least one goal for Hudson Valley.

The Vikings, who have now triumphed twice over Mohawk Valley this season, advance to 12-9-2 overall. Mohawk Valley is 6-14-1.

Vandervort and his brother, Shea Vandervort (Burlington H.S., NJ), played a role in each of Hudson Valley's first three goals, which all came before the game was five minutes old. Shea scored the first goal and Dean scored the next two. Dean finished with three goals and two assists, and Shea tallied a pair of goals and assists.

Jim Sturges (East Hampton H.S., MA), also a 2000-01 All-American, notched two goals and four assists. Playing with cracked ribs, Mike Santamoor (Saratoga H.S.) scored twice.

The Vikings host undefeated SUNY Morrisville (19-0-2) at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. This will be Hudson Valley's regular-season finale.
