Football Opens with Big Win

The Hudson Valley Community College football team (1-0) defeated Morrisville JV 49-15 on Sunday afternoon.
Jaylen McIntyre (CBA Albany/Latham) ran for a 31-yard score and a 6-yard score in the first quarter to lead the Vikings rushing attack. The team would get help from the defense when Joseph Battaglino (Mohonasen/Rotterdam) recovered two fumbles for touchdowns to give Hudson Valley a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter. Later in the second, Tajmaleeak Beckett (Flushing/Queens) hooked up with Joshua McClean (Sheepshead Bay/Brooklyn) for a 46-yard touchdown to take a 35-0 lead into the half.
Patrick Harrison (RJ Reynolds/Winston Salem, NC) took the opening kickoff of the second half 95 yards for a touchdown, and Beckett would later add a 2-yard touchdown run to cap a 49-15 victory. Cortez Watson (Forest Park/Woodbridge, VA) led the team on the ground with 89 yards, and McClean led all receivers with 96 yards.
Jon Miller (Pelham Memorial/Pelham) and Anthony Pratt (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) led the defensive attack with two sacks apiece, and Battaglino recovered the two fumbles for touchdowns in the rout.
The team travels to play Army JV on Friday at 4 p.m.
