All-American wide receiver Shawn Miller
(Troy H.S.) was named NJCAA Division III Region III Male Athlete of
the Week on the most recent Region III athletic report, which was released
September 18. The weekly report encompasses more than 30 colleges from
across the Northeast.
Miller was honored for his efforts in Hudson
Valley Community College's 27-20 victory against SUNY Morrisville on September
15. He had seven catches for a single-game school-record 189 yards, which
also earned him Northeast Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week
status. Against SUNY Morrisville, Miller had two receiving touchdowns,
including a 68-yard game-winner in the fourth quarter.
Miller leads the Vikings with 13 catches for
258 yards and four touchdowns through two games this season. He also holds
Hudson Valley's record for receptions in a game (11). Miller is currently
being recruited by several major Division I colleges.
Hudson Valley's football program was established
in 1969. At the time, Hudson Valley was one of only two junior colleges
in New York to field a varsity football team. Since then, nearly 300 Hudson
Valley football players have earned scholarships to four-year schools and
15 have gone on to play professionally. The Vikings competed in the Coca-Cola
Bowl in Iowa in 1980. In 1996, Hudson Valley posted an 8-0 record, part
of a dominant stretch that included 15 straight victories.
