Freshman quarterback Dan McLaughlin (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) completed 14-of-22 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hudson Valley Community College football team to a 21-7 win over Alfred State College today in Troy.

With the win, Hudson Valley improves its record to 3-1 and 1-1 in Northeast Football Conference play. Alfred State falls to 2-2 and 0-1 in conference.

Hudson Valley took an early 14-0 lead. The Vikings went 45 yards on six plays on the first drive of the game and scored on a 23-yard touchdown pass from McLaughlin to freshman wide receiver Eugene Cooper (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon High School).

After stopping the Pioneers on their opening drive, Hudson Valley took a 14-0 lead when freshman Bayshawn Wells (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence High School) returned the punt 86 yards for a touchdown.

After getting shut out for nearly three quarters, Alfred State capitalized on a Hudson Valley fumble on its own 21 yard line. Two plays later, quarterback Grant Tamme found Mike Septh with a 13-yard touchdown pass to cut the Pioneers deficit in half with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter.

Hudson Valley would finally put the game away on a 59-yard touchdown pass from McLaughlin to Cooper with 2:22 remaining in the contest.

Cooper finished the game with six catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman wide receiver Kamar Jordan (Darby, PA/Penn Wood high School) caught six passes for 82 yards. Sophomore running back Bobby Ransom (Brooklyn/North Florida Christian School) had 29 carries for 88 yards.

Tamme completed 18-of-41 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted three times.

Freshmen Leroy George (Clairton, PA/Clairton High School) and Stephen Fortune (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton High School) each had two interceptions for Hudson Valley.
