Three Hudson Valley Vikings Earn NJCAA Academic Awards

The NJCAA announced this week that three Hudson Valley Community College student-athletes earned NJCAA Academic Awards. Men's basketball player Anthony Robustiano (Mohonasen/Rotterdam) was the recipient of the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence, while men's soccer player James Belcastro (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and women's bowler/golfer Nicole Sheldon (Columbia/East Greenbush) each received the Superior Academic Achievement Award.

Robustiano was a two-year captain, commanding the point guard position and finishing his career fifth in Viking history with 202 total assists. He was one of the top shooters in the region this season, finishing second in the country in free-throw percentage at 85.5% and 15th in the country in three-point percentage at 42.5%.

Belcastro led the Vikings' midfield attack this season on the soccer field. He was one of the top defensive midfielders and finished the season with two assists.

Sheldon was a two-sport athlete who excelled on the bowling lanes. She won the singles championship at this year's Regional Championship, was named an All-American and was named to both the All-Region and All-Conference teams. Sheldon's best finish on the golf course was fourth place at the SUNY Delhi Invitational.
