Hudson Valley Bowler Tia-Marie Stevens Recognized by SUNY Chancellor

Tia-Marie Stevens (Sand Lake/Averill Park High School), who recently completed her second season on Hudson Valley Community College women’s bowling team, has received the 2006-07 SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar Athlete Award.

Stevens will receive her associate’s degree in individual studies this spring. She has been named to the college’s President’s List in each of her three semesters and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges.

An accomplished bowler, Stevens was the 2006 National Junior College Athletic Association Region III overall champion and was an integral part of the Hudson Valley women’s bowling team that finished second in the nation at the NJCAA championships in 2006 and 2007.

The SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar Athlete Award recognized 78 student-athletes at 28 campuses for their performances in the classroom and on the playing field in the 2006-07 school year.
