The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (2-2) split with Hagerstown Community College (15-5), winning game one 9-1 and losing game two 7-4 on Friday afternoon. The team came back on Saturday afternoon to defeat Thomas Nelson Community College (6-6) 3-0 in game one and then dropped the second game 5-2.

In game one against Hagerstown, Nicholas Teitter (Saugerties/Saugerties) pitched five solid innings, allowing one run on four hits in his college debut to earn the win. The Vikings offense exploded with nine runs on 20 hits. Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson), Dustin Conte (Hudson/Hudson), and Garrett Klahr (Shaker/Latham) led the way with three hits apiece in the win. In game two, the Vikings fell behind and a late 7th inning rally behind Teitter’s two-run homerun fell short.

On Saturday, Codey Piel (Columbia/East Greenbush) pitched a complete-game shutout in game one. Teitter led the team with two RBIs, and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) added a hit and an RBI in the win. The bats went cold in game two as Teitter and Brandon Cellucci (Averill Park/Troy) were the only two Vikings to produce an RBI in the loss.

The Vikings open up Regional play on Tuesday, April 5 when they host Fulton-Montgomery at 2 p.m.
