Baseball Team Splits With Herkimer

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (26-13-1) split a doubleheader against Herkimer County Community College (17-12) on Sunday, May 1. The Vikings took game one 13-4, while Herkimer won game two 7-6 in extra innings.

Sean Geisel (Guilderland/Guilderland) hit a two-run single in the first inning of game one to get the Vikings started. Geisel finished the game going 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Bobby Peluso (Columbia/East Greenbush) had an RBI triple in the fifth inning, giving Hudson Valley a 7-4 lead. Peluso and Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) both went 2-4 in the win. The Vikings then scored six additional runs in the sixth inning and Josh Johnson (Tamarac/Wynantskill) shut the door on the Generals with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

It took eight innings for game two to be decided. The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs to force extra innings. Jake DePietro (Kingston/Kingston) led the Vikings with a two-run homerun. Nick Davoulas (Cooperstown/Cooperstown) and Luke Burns (Delaware Academy/Bovina) both went 2-4 in the loss.

The Vikings travel to Mohawk Valley Community College for a make-up game on Tuesday, May 3.
