Since 2002, the University at Albany baseball team has had at least one former Hudson Valley Community College student-athlete on its roster. That relationship should continue for at least the next couple of years with the recent signing of Hudson Valley pitchers Nate Novak (Hudson/Hudson High School) and Justin Shannon (East Greenbush/Columbia High School).

Novak leaves Hudson Valley as one of the most decorated pitchers in school history. He was a two-time First Team All-Region III selection, a two-time Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and a First Team NJCAA All-American. He established a school-record for career wins with a 16-3 record over his two years. He struck out 165 batters in 119 innings. At the plate, he ranks fifth with 96 career hits.

Shannon has one more season remaining at Hudson Valley before transferring in 2008. He posted a 4-3 record as a freshman, striking out 34 batters in 30 innings of work.

UAlbany, coached by John Mueller, won the America East Conference championship in 2007 and advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament.
